The Easter Bunny’s Assistant Freebie

Do you guys own this book? I’m sure you do, but if not, you can purchase it with the link below or off of the Scholastic website. My students LOVED this book! It’s about a skunk who wants to help with dyeing Easter eggs but he gets a little too excited and you can guess what happens next!

The Easter Bunny's Assistant Book

The Easter Bunny’s Assistant

My students BEGGED me to read this book way past Easter time. The author, Jan Thomas, makes some truly hilarious books that are perfect for kindergarten.

The illustrations are crisp and clear, they contain tons of sight words, and many of them follow a repetitious pattern.

My kids start reading these books on their own very quickly because they are funny and easy to remember (much like Mo Willems books). Below is a list of some of my other favorites by Jan Thomas:

I have been in a sequencing mood lately! If you haven’t checked out my leprechaun trap sequencing freebie, you can check it out here:

Leprechaun Trap Story Sequencing

This story really lends itself to sequencing activities as the Easter Bunny is teaching skunk (and us) how to make Easter eggs.

I made this quick sequencing freebie that follows along with the book and also gives students some sentence writing practice!

Step by step instructions.

Also included, is a page with a blank egg that they can decorate and write a small story with. You could focus on one of the following things:

  • Adjectives – describing the egg with the 5 senses
  • Story Telling – write about an Easter egg hunt, or dyeing eggs in class
  • Procedural Writing – write about how the Easter egg was made
Easter egg descriptive writing.

This writing activity would obviously go really well with dyeing eggs in the classroom or doing an Easter egg hunt together!
