Leprechauns are so fun to incorporate into a lesson! Kindergarten kids aren’t 100% sure if they’re real or not : ) Their wild imaginations make for many fun learning opportunities this time of year!
Leprechaun Trap Resources
I know a lot of classes do leprechaun traps as part of a school STEM project. I’ve done these in the past and my kids LOVED it! You can read a little bit more about how I organized that project in my classroom.
There are some great ideas out there for simple leprechaun traps you can do in the classroom. You can even find leprechaun trap kits at Oriental Trading!
The activity that I have for you today is all about story sequencing using a leprechaun trap. You can use the visuals I have for you, or use the blank resources provided in the resource and tailor them to your needs. I like to start the lesson with one of these cute books:
Leprechaun Trap Writing Resources
The first worksheet gives the students 4 sequential pictures They write a brief synopsis under each picture.
I also have a blank version of this worksheet in the resource. If you choose to do an at-home project or a class STEM project you can use the blank forms to individualize their writing.
The next worksheet gives the students a little more structure with transition words!
I’ve also included some picture cards that you can use in a pocket chart or on the whiteboard to discuss how the sequence of events occurred.
Finally, I have a picture box with lots of writing space for students to create a story about how the leprechaun was trapped.
The actual worksheet doesn’t have pictures on the page. I added the clip art on my example because I can’t draw to save my life! LOL
I wanted to give you some different writing options so that you could either differentiate in your own classroom or go step-by-step through the writing process as you build to a cohesive story.
You could also work on the sequencing of this trap, then move on to the students building their own STEM project. After that, you could circle back to the blank version of these worksheets and have students write the details of how they created their personalized trap.
