Snowman Craft and a Freebie!

I love getting a couple of Winter crafts done before we go on Winter break! When I come back into the classroom after vacation it takes me a minimal amount of time to switch out bulletin boards from Christmas to Winter. This snowman craft is simple and easy, and will look great on your classroom bulletin board!

Craft Prep

This craft requires very little materials. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Black construction paper
  • Snowman elements printed out
  • White paint
  • Black paint
  • Q-tips

I print out the snowman body, carrot nose, and scarf on white cardstock. You can also print it on regular computer paper, it holds up pretty well. You could run the carrot nose on orange paper if you wanted to save some time, or the scarf on colored paper as well.

Snowman Craft Assembly

After the students have colored the scarf and the carrot, they will glue all of the pieces together on a black piece of construction paper.

The placement of the nose can be a little bit tricky for students. They don’t understand why we don’t add eyes to the snowman. Explaining perspective to them and showing them what we look like when we tilt our heads back to look up is an important part of the lesson.

Next, we use a Q-tip with black paint on it to add in the buttons and the smile. I love these small paint trays from Dollar Tree!

Finally, we use another Q-tip with white paint to add in the snowflakes. You could also use a toothpick with the white paint to create the snowflakes, but it’s a little bit more difficult for the students and sometimes they look a little funky : )

Bulletin Boards

These look so cute on a classroom bulletin board! Here’s a couple of titles you could add to your board:

  • “Kindergarten is SNOW much fun”
  • “There’s SNOW place like Kindergarten” (or you school’s name)
  • “Winter is SNOW much fun”
  • “Our class in SNOW cool”
  • “It’s SNOW secret… we’re a great class” (or we love Jesus if you’re in a religious school)
  • “Let it snow”
